Ocean County's seashore resorts are most easily reached from the Garden
State Parkway, the state's primary north-south highway. It runs about 10
miles from the coast in Ocean County. Parkway Exit numbers also are mile
post markers with "0" being the starting point in the southern part of the
New Jersey and "172" being the end in the northern part of the state. Ocean
County's seashore resorts are found from Exit 58 to Exit 98.
From upstate New York, take Rt. 87 south to the Garden State Parkway and
head south.
From eastern New York, take local highways to U.S. 95, the New Jersey
Turnpike, and take the Garden State Parkway at Interchange 11.
Use Exit 98 for Pt. Pleasant Beach, Bay Head, Six Flags Great Adventure
Use Exit 82 for Seaside Park, Seaside Heights, Island Beach State Park,
Lavallette
Use Exit 63 for Long Beach Island (Barnegat Light, Harvey Cedars, Surf
City, Ship Bottom, Long Beach Township, and Beach Haven)
FROM THE SOUTH:
From points south, take I-95 (NJ Turnpike) or I-295 north.
For Six Flag Great Adventure, take I-195 East.
For Long Beach Island, take the Atlantic City Expressway E. to the Garden
State Parkway N to Exit 63 E.
Or take Rt 70 E., then:
For Long Beach Island, take Rt. 72 E.
For Seaside Heights, Seaside Park & Island Beach State Park, take Rt. 37E.
For Pt. Pleasant Beach, Bay Head, take I-195 East, Rt. 34 S., Rt. 35 S.

Or take the Ben Franklin Bridge to Rt. 30 E., to Rt. 70 E.
For Long Beach Island, take Rt. 72 south
For Seaside Heights, Seaside Park & Island Beach State Park, take Rt. 37
For Six Flag Great Adventure, take I-195 East.
For Pt. Pleasant Beach, Bay Head, take I-195 East, Rt. 34 S., Rt. 35 S.
BY BUS

are inland from which there is no public transit to shore points. Cabs are
available, but the distance will make the ride costly
New Jersey Transit Bus 67 travels from New York to Seaside Heights during
the summer months only.
New Jersey Transit Bus 139 travels from New York and teminates in
Lakewood.
New Jersey Transit Bus 559 travels from from Lakewood to Little Egg
Harbor.
New Jersey Transit Bus 317 travels a winding and indirect route from
Philadelphia to Pt. Pleasant Beach, a shore resort.
New Jersey Transit Bus 319 is an express from New York to Atlantic City
with a stop in Toms River, the county seat, which is about ten miles from
Seaside Heights, Seaside Park and Island Beach State Park.
BY TRAIN
New Jersey Transit's North Jersey Coast Line starts at Penn Station in New
York and ends in Ocean County stopping at two shore resorts, Pt. Pleasant
Beach and Bay Head. The stations are 6-7 blocks from the Atlantic Ocean.

BY BOAT
The Intracoastal Waterway starts in Ocean County at Bay Head in Barnegat
Bay and ends in Florida. If you are boating into the area, you might want
to read "A Crusing Guide to New Jersey Waters" by Captain Donald Launer or
contact a marina on a web site. Ocean County has more than 200 marinas, 40
miles of sheltered Barnegat Bay, 40 miles of oceanfront and rivers.
BY FERRY
From points south, one can reach Ocean County either by the Delaware
Memorial Bridige (I-95) or the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. From the Ferry,
follow the signs for the Garden State Parkway and head north. (see FROM THE
SOUTH) for specific exit points.
From Newark Airport:
Olympic Airport Shuttle leaves at least hourly from 6:36 a.m. to 11:36
p.m., from terminals A, B. and C, taking about two hours to reach the
Toms River Bus Terminal. As of 3/28/2005, charge is $30.

Directions to Ocean County Government Complex in downtown Toms River:
Most, but not all, Ocean County government offices are located in the
downtown section of the county seat of Toms River and within 5 minutes
drive from the Garden State Parkway.
FROM THE NORTH: Garden State Parkway to Exit 82, Rt. 37 East to Rt. 549
(Hooper Ave.), take right hand turn slot, go one mile and you will be at
the Downtown County Complex.
FROM THE SOUTH: Garden State Parkway to Exit 81. Turn right onto Water
St. stay in left hand lane, take the left hand turn lane at the Rt. 549
(Hooper Ave.) traffic light, go one block
FROM THE WEST: Take Rt. 70 east to Rt. 37 east at Lakehurst. Continue on
Rt. 37 until you reach Rt. 549 (Hooper Ave.).
Take Rt. 549 right hand turn slot, go one mile and you will be at the
Downtown County Complex.
There is free parking in the county garage located to the rear of 129
Hooper Ave. It can be reached from the driveway between 119 and 101 Hooper
Ave.
