HOMELAND SECURITY GRANT TO UPGRADE SECURITY AT ROBERT J. MILLER COUNTY AIRPARK

OCEAN COUNTY will receive a $249,518 grant from the NJ Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness to upgrade surveillance and safety equipment at the Robert J. Miller Airpark.

"This money will allow us to increase security and guard against terrorist activities at the county airpark in Berkeley Township," said Freeholder Director Joseph H. Vicari.

Specifically, the grant includes funding for:

  • A diesel generator
  • Automatic gates
  • Security cameras
  • Printers
  • Knox Boxes for emergency entry
  • Gate strobe/alarm
  • Lights and poles
  • Radios
  • ID card readers
  • Power Packs
Freeholder John P. Kelly, director of Law and Public Safety, said the grant was awarded through the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department to "enhance the ability to prevent, detect, deter, respond to and recover from threats and acts of terrorism."

The enhanced security will also add to the safety and protection of first responders during any emergency at the airport, Kelly said.

Vicari, who is also freeholder liaison to the airpark, said only two other small airports in the state received Homeland Security grants - Lakewood Airport and Trenton-Mercer Airport.
