WASHINGTON STREET IN DOWNTOWN TOMS RIVER TO BE RESURFACED; SHIP BOTTOM TRAFFIC SIGNALS WILL BE UPGRADED
DOWNTOWN TOMS RIVER’S Washington Street will be reconstructed and resurfaced later this spring.
The Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders is expected to award an $854,713 contract to Earle Asphalt Company,
Farmingdale, for the project, which includes milling and overlaying the road from Main Street east to Maiden Lane.
"This is part of our yearly ongoing road maintenance program," said Freeholder John P. Kelly, Director of Law and
Public Safety for the county.
Also included in the same contract is the reconstruction and resurfacing of Double Trouble Road in Beachwood
Borough and Berkeley Township from Jake’s Branch County Park south to Pinewald-Keswick Road.
Both projects will include some storm water drainage and handicap ramp upgrades and new signage.
"If the weather cooperates, we’ll have both of these projects done before the summer," said Kelly, who is also
liaison to the Ocean County Engineering Department.
The Freeholders are also expected to award a $731,417 contract to Edward H. Cray, Inc. of Trenton for the
installation of a new traffic signal in the Borough of Ship Bottom and the upgrade of seven existing signals.
A new traffic light will be installed at Long Beach Boulevard and 14th Street. The seven upgraded signals are all
along Long Beach Boulevard.
"The contractor will be working through the spring and the work should be completed before the start of the
summer," said Freeholder James F. Lacey, liaison to the Ocean County Road Department.
